The Water

We’ve had a little rain over the past week or so. It started Thursday of last week with a humdinger of a thunderstorm in the middle of the night. It woke Beau and me up and kept us awake for a while since it seemed to be right over our house. Lots of bright lightning and loud booms of thunder.

Saturday brought more rain - a lot of it.

Yesterday was the kicker for the area - lots of flash flooding. It’s bad enough that while the government is open, there is a liberal leave policy in place and several specific agencies are closed because of flooding in or around their buildings. We are operational, although we were supposed to have one of the criminal clerks from a suboffice here this week to help out. She is stranded at her hotel just down the road because the hotel basement garage flooded - her car is seriously damaged from the water.

I managed to avoid the traffic back up on the Beltway, which was closed for a while this morning near Alexandria because of a mudslide. By the time I got there, completely oblivious because I purposefully do not listen to traffic reports anymore, I noticed a lot of mud in the shoulder and that the Telegraph Road South exits on both sides were closed. I take the North exit, so I was fine.

And it rained hard last night - imagine that someone opened up the tub faucet over your house. It was just like that.

My parents’ basement flooded a bit last night and they’re concerned about tonight’s predicted storms. We’re in for a lot more rain this week.
